187 Milestone Beneficiaries Receive Strengthened Support from NCSC and Taguig City

As part of its continuous commitment to bring services closer to our senior citizens, the National Commission of Senior Citizen has partnered with the City of Taguig for the inaugural payout of  ₱10,000 cash gift incentive to 187 milestone beneficiaries under the Expanded Centenarians Act. This program brings more good news to Taguig’s strong and active elderly community, reinforcing the support and recognition they truly deserve.

In her courtesy meeting with the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Presidents from the city’s 38 barangays, NCSC OIC Chairperson Dr. Mary Jean P. Loreche congratulated the initiatives of the Taguig for its over 70,000 elderly population. Comm. Loreche also asked the local government’s help in strengthening NCSC's upcoming programs which includes the implementation of the Expanded Centenarian Cash Incentive, the Elderly-Care Curriculum in partnership with the University of the Philippines, livelihood retraining and retooling in partnership with TESDA, and other collaborations all aimed at improving senior citizen welfare. Additionally, she urged the support for the Magna Carta for senior citizens, the 3% budget allocation for LGUs to enhance and sustain their senior citizen programs, and stronger measures against violence toward older persons.

Mayor Laarni Cayetano responded with a big Yes to this challenge, strongly expressing her willingness to support all future activities of the city in partnership with NCSC.Mayor Cayetano also emphasized the city government’s key initiatives for the elderly such as the birthday cash gifts, job fairs for seniors, and an ordinance ensuring centenarians receive a ₱100,000 annual grant on their birthdays.

The commitment of both agencies became even more evident in the inaugural payout which also honors Taguig’s centenarian, Ms. Esperanza “Pansay” Rentoy—who turned 100 years old last month—with a ₱100,000 cash gift.

In her tour around the facility together with Commissioners Reymar R. Mansilungan and Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, Comm. Loreche also expressed her admiration for the Taguig Center for the Elderly—a one-stop-shop which offers a therapy pool, gym, clinic, multipurpose hall/ recreational area, ballroom area, mini theater, a rooftop garden, and free weekly checkup with the geriatricians in collaboration with  St. Luke's Medical Center.

NCSC is set to return to Taguig City in the coming weeks together with its international partners from the Aged Care Research & Industry Innovation Australia (ARIAA) to enhance the city’s current programs and align them with NCSC’s vision for the Senior Citizens Community Care Center.
