Beware of Phishing Website Targeting the Senior Citizens
and the General Public
We urge the public to exercise caution with websites that appear to collect personal information from Senior Citizens and the General Public. Phishing is a deceptive practice where scammers create fake websites to mimic legitimate ones, with the intent to steal sensitive information.
What to Look Out For
Registration Form: Be wary of this that asks for personal information as well as sensitive information of the data subjects.
Interest-based tactic: The website presented and posted a sense of social relevance to the interest of the senior citizens and families.
Suspected Phishing Website can be identified by the following:
1. There is no verifiable contact information on the website.
2. The website is portrayed as a government office but is privately registered to as an individual usually located outside the Philippines.
3. The Domain was created and actively registered but does not have a government web hosting service being provided by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT).
If you suspect that you have encountered a phishing website, do not provide any personal information. Inform your community to prevent others from falling victim to these scams.
